National Day of Hungary

On the 19th October, the Hungarian Embassy has organized the National Day.  The celebration commemorates the well know Hungarian Revolution of 1956. At that time, Hungarians demonstrated against the brutality of the Communist regime, but their determination was crashed down by the military intervention of the Soviet Union. Twelve years later, something similar happened in Czechoslovakia, with the Soviet tanks entering Prague. Hungarians and Czechs share an important experience which is still in the direct memory of the oldest generations.

The event has been held within the very suggestive premises of the Brevnov Monastery. These premises have been built in the Middle Age. Maybe some of us did not know that the Monastery is considered as the oldest brewery in the Czech Republic.

Several representatives of Czechs and foreign authorities have participated to the event. We feel to mention the presence of the Czech President Emeritus Professor Vaclav Klaus and of his wife Her Excellency Livia Klausova ( who is herself a former Ambassador, having represented the Czech Republic in Slovakia).
