Nerudová’s immodest gaffes save STAN

Just a few days after Danuše Nerudová announced that she would run in the EU elections next year as a “personality” on STAN’s candidate list, she said in MFD that there might be room to found a new political party next year (i.e. perhaps while she’s still campaigning for STAN). The absurdity of this apparently occurred to her or her handlers quickly, because that same day on Czech Radio she changed the time frame to 1.5 or 2 years. She nevertheless continues to make comments that relegate STAN to nothing more than her ticket to power. For example, she told Respekt that she might be asked to form a government if the one STAN is in falls. Why does STAN put up with this? Perhaps because if she weren’t taking front and center, such STAN issues as the Dosimeter criminal case, the expensive purchase of RWE Gas Storage CZ, the shenanigans surrounding the Pilsen gigafactory or Interior Min. Vít Rakušan’s plans to militarize the police would be. Hiring Nerudová was a clever diversion.
