FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC WARMLY WELCOMES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PHILIPPINE SPACE AGENCY
Members of the Filipino community in Prague warmly welcomed the creation of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) and expressed support for the success of its programs and activities during their meeting with Deputy Director General for Space Science and Technology Gay Jane P. Perez, Ph.D., at Kavarna U Zvonu of the Stone Bell House in Prague on 18 September 2022.
Dr. Perez, who was in Prague for the First Joint Council and Presidents’ Meeting of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, presented the structure and mission of PhilSA, and recent developments in the agency’s space science and technology applications.
Together with Dr. Perez was NASA-Earth Sciences Division Senior Scientist Josefino C. Comiso, Ph.D., who shared his knowledge and experience on the peaceful uses of outer space, particularly focusing on the results of his research on climate change.
During the three-hour town hall meeting, exchanges were made on space data mobilization, Philippine satellites as vital component of the national information and communications technology infrastructure (under the Build, Build, Build in Space or B3iS program), and space education and awareness.
Created under Republic Act no. 11363 in 2019, PhilSA is the central government agency that addresses all national issues and activities related to space science and technology applications.
