Prague Plans Extensive Electric Vehicle Charging Network with European Funds

Prague, Czech Republic – Prague is set to revolutionize its transportation landscape by utilizing European funds and other subsidies to construct a comprehensive network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. In collaboration with Operátor ICT, the city aims to support the increasing number of EVs by installing charging infrastructure throughout the urban area.

The city has allocated up to 500 million CZK for the project, with expectations that European funds will cover up to 85% of the total investment costs. The plan entails developing a concession framework to operate the charging stations in public spaces.

This initiative is part of Prague’s commitment to promoting electric mobility by providing convenient and high-quality charging infrastructure. The installation of the first charging stations is scheduled to commence next year.

Prague’s Vision for Electric Mobility Prague is preparing for a future where electric vehicles become commonplace. Projections suggest that by 2030, the city’s roads could accommodate up to 180,000 EVs. To facilitate this transition, Prague is determined to establish the necessary charging infrastructure, supporting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon emissions. The city’s overarching objective is to create a cleaner and more livable environment for all residents.

Financing and Implementation Strategy The financing of the EV charging station project will rely on a combination of European funds and additional subsidies. Operátor ICT has been entrusted with the implementation, including the installation and operation of the charging infrastructure.

Prague is currently in the process of preparing tender documentation to select a concessionaire who will be responsible for the installation and management of the charging stations. The chosen company will play a pivotal role in developing a robust and accessible charging network that caters to the needs of EV owners across the city.

By capitalizing on European funds and strategic partnerships, Prague is poised to transform its transportation landscape and encourage a shift toward sustainable mobility. The planned network of EV charging stations will not only facilitate the growth of EV adoption but also contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for the city of Prague.
