Rise of Automated Stores: Neratov in Hradec Králové Region Welcomes COOP’s Fully Automated Outlet
In a bid to address the diminishing presence of local stores in small towns and villages, fully automated stores are emerging as a promising solution. One such automated store has made its debut in Neratov, located in the picturesque Orlické Mountains within the Hradec Králové Region. This endeavor brings not only convenience but also economic viability to a region facing challenges in sustaining traditional brick-and-mortar stores.
Neratov, nestled in a valley behind the main ridge of the Orlické Mountains, has witnessed a revitalization led by priest Josef Suchár. The area, once marked by a pilgrimage church with a collapsed roof and a dwindling population, experienced a resurgence with the priest’s efforts. Suchár initiated an association that breathed new life into the pilgrimage site, featuring protected workshops, a microbrewery, and now, a fully automated store.
The Neratov association had previously operated a store that faced economic challenges. The transformative moment arrived with a partnership with the COOP chain, which brought not only economic support but also addressed crucial issues such as internet connectivity. Internet access is imperative for the functioning of the automated store, where buyers use an app to open the store’s doors and complete transactions.
The automated store in Neratov leverages Wi-Fi installed through fiber optics. Buyers, verified by bank identity to ensure they are over 18 years old, use the app to open doors and make purchases. The inclusion of age verification aligns with the store’s offering of alcoholic beverages.
The COOP chain, at the forefront of this innovative trend, currently operates approximately fifteen fully automated stores and has plans to open an additional fifty by the end of the next year. The rise of automated stores, inspired by the global trend initiated by Amazon Go stores, represents a significant shift in retail, providing convenient and efficient options for consumers while contributing to the economic sustainability of localities facing the challenges of traditional retail closures.
