Severe thunderstorms are striking, meteorologists warned

Severe thunderstorms will hit the southwestern regions of the Czech Republic on Wednesday afternoon and evening, which may be accompanied by torrential rain, hail, and especially strong winds gusting at around 70 kilometers per hour.

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), isolated strong thunderstorms will threaten from 5 pm to 2 am on Thursday.

The warning is valid for South Bohemia, Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, and parts of the Central Bohemia and Vysočina regions.

“Given the high wind shear values, we cannot rule out the occurrence of supercells,” said meteorologists, who said the storms should move quickly and, therefore, do not expect high rainfall totals. “Larger hailstorms are unlikely,” the ČHMÚ added.

According to meteorologists, it should rain throughout the country in the coming days. In some places, the rainfall may even be heavier.

The meteorologists said heavy precipitation will still occur during the night on Thursday, and only during Thursday afternoon will the rainfall from the northwest stop, and the clouds will begin to diminish.
