Spanish National Day

On the 13th October, the Spanish Embassy has celebrated the National Day of Spain. This day, which is also referred to as Dia de la Hispanidad, is the occasion for commemorating the history and traditions of the country. It officially falls on the 12th October, the Day of the discovery of America by Columbus and the choice of the day symbolizes the strong link of Spain with the American Continent. The same day represents also the Feasts of Our Lady of the Pillar , of the  Virgin of Zapopan as well as the Day of the Spanish Armed Forces. An interesting occurrence is that the 12th October is celebrated also in many countries in Latin America

The venue has been the Prague Crossroad (St Anne Church) a very prestigious location. This place is a deconsecrated church and the current space has been organized by the Foundation VIZE 97 of Vaclav Havel and his wife Dagmar

The initial speech has been held by the Charge’ d’ Affaires,  Mr Bernardo López López-Ríos.   The event on its own has been, as usual in such occasions,  attended by a number of selected guests, among them many diplomats from other embassies in Prague, assembling and enjoying Spanish delicacies.
