August’s Choice of Brewers brings the summer Ale beer variety for the fifth time. The summer staple in the Program of Plzeňský Prazdroj this year is named Tropikale and is full of fresh flavours of supremely fermented beer with a more pronounced citrus aroma. Additionally, tropikale became the basis of a specialbeer cocktail.

Tropikale’s unfiltered special is a fresh, supremely fermented summer beer with a beautiful golden colour. Thanks to American hops, it has a pleasant bitterness and a strong aroma with perfectly balanced citrus and hop notes. It thus presents a light and well-drinkable beer ideal for summer days.

Moreover, the choice of brewers for the month of August has been combined with Super Panda Circus, one of the most original Czech bars, and together they bring a special beer cocktail packed with summer flavours. In addition to Tropikale beer, grapefruit and yuzu juice also play a major role, with taste buds then surprising the salt all over the rim of the glass and the lime.

“We conceived of the whole cocktail concept as a fresh and well-drinkable summer drink. The main points are the bitterness and citrusity of Tropikal. At the same time, we wanted the cocktail to be simple to prepare and from easily accessible ingredients. We combined the idea of two drinks of Paloma and Lagerita, which are very refreshing cocktails, one is with beer

and a second with grapefruit juice. We also wanted to keep the Super Panda handwriting – the bar is characterised by the use of Asian and exotic ingredients – so we also added the juice of Japanese citrus yuzu to the cocktail,” says the recipe’s author, Super Panda Circus bartender Michal Nevrlý.

The top-fermented Tropikale special contains 4.3% alcohol. Because it is unfiltered, it is characterised by a beautiful light yellow colour (13 EBCs) with a subtle cloudiness typical

for these beers. After a drink, you can first smell the citrus notes of grapefruit, which are soon complemented by a pleasant higher bitterness (33 IBU) and a full hop aroma.

A perfectly fluffed Tropikale special and a fresh beer cocktail will be on offer throughout August in selected pubs throughout the Czech and Slovak Republics. The Programme Of Choice of Brewers brings a new beer special every month and contributes to the diversity of the Czech beer market. Plzeňský Prazdroj launched this special programme in May 2015 and has brought over 60 types of beer specials to more than 1,000 pubs.
