The covid epidemic continues to accelerate in the Czech Republic

The covid epidemic continues to accelerate in the Czech Republic. On Thursday, 2,110 confirmed cases of infection were added, roughly a third more than a week ago. In the last seven days, laboratories have detected almost 12,000 new infections, which is an increase of about a thousand cases compared to the previous week. Hospitalized patients are not increasing, there are 717 patients with covid in hospitals. This follows from the data of the Ministry of Health.

Daily increases in new cases of the coronavirus have been increasing in the Czech Republic in a week-on-week comparison since Monday. More than 2,000 cases have been added in each of the last four days, which last happened in early August.

Along with this, the interest in tests is also growing. In the last seven days, laboratories have carried out approximately 48,400 of them. A week earlier, it was almost 44,000 tests. Their positivity also increases. For preventive tests, it reached almost eight percent on Thursday, a week ago it was below five percent. The most common diagnostic tests carried out by people showing symptoms of the disease revealed covid in more than 32 percent of those tested. It was an increase of 1.5 percentage points. In the case of epidemiological tests, which are carried out, for example, due to contact with an infected person, positivity increased by roughly one percentage point above 19 percent.

In the last seven days, 112 people have been infected per 100,000 inhabitants. The so-called incident number has thus increased by ten since last week. The worst situation is in the Hradec Králové region, where there were 133 cases of infection per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week. Conversely, in the Karlovy Vary Region, the incidence is 95, the lowest in the Czech Republic.

The number of hospitalized patients with covid did not change significantly during the week. Last Thursday, there were 761 infected people in hospitals, 44 more than now. But the number of patients in serious condition increased. A week ago there were 24, currently 35.

Long covid under scrutiny

We focused on the post-covid syndrome and its effects on insomnia or psyche in the analysis. For example, in it you will learn what percentage of patients after an acute infection struggle with insomnia and other sleep disorders and why this may be a problem in the future.

Since the beginning of the epidemic in March 2020, approximately 4.06 million cases of infection have been confirmed in the Czech Republic. This number does not include cases where someone has been infected repeatedly. More than 313,000 people are suspected of re-infection. So far, 40,898 people have died from the coronavirus in the country. There have been 43 victims in the past seven days, compared to 55 a week earlier.

6.89 million people were fully vaccinated against covid-19 in the Czech Republic. 4.3 million people received the first booster dose and more than 193,000 received the second. In the last seven days, 30,616 people were vaccinated, up from more than 32,000 a week earlier.

Modified vaccines for new variants of the coronavirus from Pfizer/BioNTech arrived in the Czech Republic this week. On Thursday, for example, the Faculty Thomayer Hospital in Prague started vaccinating with them, and it has around 2,800 doses available.
