The first Citroën 2CV with a Czech female crew is registered at the finish of the Dakar Rally
In the Czech Dakar team in 2024 as part of the Czech Samurais team, the first Czech, purely women’s crew Bára Holická and navigator Lucie Engová also took off. This crew took part in the DAKAR CLASSIC, a race for old, iconic cars that the Dakar had once conquered or at least attempted and are now returning to the track with new crews. That’s why the girls chose at first glance an unconventional car, the iconic Citroën 2CV, popularly called the Duck, which has started 14 times in Dakar but never reached the finish before.In 2024 but the girls rewrote the history and the first Citroën 2CV is registered at the finish of the Dakar RallyCar 2CV celebrated in 2023 the seventy-five year anniversary of the start of production. The duck has come to be dubbed for its wobbly turn ride .
In what was then Czechoslovakia, films with Louis de Funes about gendarmes made this car famous. This also led to the English duckcar re-enactment, but officially the team is named English Samurais. The race car the female crew was riding with dates back to 1979. “I found 2CV and specialized mechanic Tomas Neruda,” B.Holicka explained. Neruda transformed the rusted old 2CV into a fully prepared Dakar special Czech pop artist Josef Rataj took care of the original look of the car. Major upgrades to the 44-year-old racing Duck encroach on the chassis. The car has mainly a new more durable chassis frame as well as reinforced shoulders. Lean so much in the desert, and double horizontal dampers are also special – each wheel has two. The original two-cylinder six-seater became a new upgraded unit with a larger engine capacity of 650 cm3 and a maximum output of 35 horsepower.
