The Josef Odložil Memorial 2022

On Monday, June 6, 2022, fans of athletics will see another 29th year of the MEMORIÁL JOSEFA ODLOŽILA at the Juliska Stadium in Prague. This is a prestigious meeting of the WORLD ATHLETICS CONTINETAL TOUR series, full of domestic and foreign athletic stars. The organizers prepared 17 disciplines in the main program, of which 7 were women and 10 were men. The main race will traditionally be the men’s 1500m run, in which Josef Odložil won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964. This time, the thirteen-time participant Jakub Holuša will no longer race in the main event, the men’s 1500m run. The Czech record holder has exchanged the role of an active runner for the position of coach and will officially say goodbye to his career at the traditional meeting at Juliska on June 6. It was here a year ago that he ran his last race, even though he didn’t know it at the time. Other memorial disciplines will be the women’s javelin throw “Dana Zátopková Memorial” and the men’s shot put “Jaroslav Brabec Memorial”. “It is still about Barbora Špotáková, whether she will start here or not,” said the director of the meeting Miroslav Ševčík on May 27, 2022 at a press conference, which was also attended by the bowler Tomáš Staněk.

Silver and bronze medalists from the last Olympics Vadlejch and Veselý will perform in the javelin throw. At 100, the record holder of the Rodgers meeting with Vicaut will fight. Both have personal records well under 10s. Spectators will have a unique chance to see world athletics with their own eyes at the famous Juliska Stadium.  As part of the Josef Odložil Memorial, the competition for the best pupils in the Czech Republic “For the Cup of the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague” will take place. The student races will also be an award for Emil and Dana Zátopková on the occasion of the centenary of their birth. There will also be competitions for pupils of Dukla Prague. The Josef Odložil Memorial is an international athletics meeting that has been held annually in Prague since 1994 in honor of the tragically deceased runner Josef Odložil († 1993), who won a silver medal in the 1500 meters at the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. Until 2001, it was held at the Evžen Rošický Stadium in Strahov. Since 2002, the venue has been the Na Julisce Stadium in Dejvice. In 2003, the meeting was included in the IAAF Grand Prix II category, later in the EAA Premium Meeting. Miroslav Ševčík is the director of the meeting and the chairman of the organizing committee.  Time program info: https://www.memorial-odlozil.cz/  Free entry.
