The Viola Theatre presented the world premiere of the French play The Nobel on 3 February

The first season premiere at the Viola Theatre has a hallmark of worldliness. The stage adaptation of Cyril Gély’s bestseller The Nobel Viola will be released on 3 February before it premieres in its home France. Two top scientists, a groundbreaking discovery, but only one Nobel Prize. The cast of the drama, directed by Radovan Lipus, will be played by Jan Šťastný, Apolena Veldová and Kateřina Seidlová.
The Nobel is a brilliant duel of arguments and emotions that takes place in December 1946. German chemist Otto Hahn arrives in Stockholm to accept the Nobel Prize for the discovery of nuclear fission, on which he collaborated with Lise Meitner, an Austrian physicist of Jewish descent. She visits him in a hotel suite just before the ceremony.. The fracturing of a deep relationship, like the fission of an atomic nucleus.
For the fifth year running, the Viola Theatre has successfully presented another Cyril Gély play , The Hour of Diplomacy. Also directed by Radovan Lipus and starring Jan Šťastný, who is superbly seconded on stage by Hanuš Bor. “In The Nobel, it’s a very tense conversation between two people in one place and at one time, much as it is in The Hour of Diplomacy. This means that the testing was very intense especially for the two of us with Apolena Veld, and not quite simple, because we also had to learn something expert text. We portray a chemist and physicist who ‘together’ came to discover and describe nuclear fission – a fundamental discovery for the 20th century. Underneath it all lies the latent story of the two of them as collaborators, but at the same time men and women,” says Jan Šťastný.  .JK
