Trams Collision at Prague’s Modřanská rokle Stop Causes Injuries and Disrupts Morning Commute
In an unfortunate incident that unfolded during the early hours of the morning, two trams collided at the Modřanská rokle tram stop in Prague, resulting in injuries and disrupting the city’s tram services. The collision occurred at approximately 6:45 AM, affecting both passengers and tram operators.
Rescuers swiftly intervened, facing the challenging task of extracting the wedged tram driver from the wreckage. Due to the severity of her condition, the driver was placed in an artificial sleep by medical responders to stabilize her airway. One passenger also suffered injuries, specifically a back injury, although this individual remained conscious throughout the ordeal.
The incident prompted Prague’s emergency services to take swift action and report the incident on the X network (formerly Twitter), ensuring the public was informed of the situation.
Tram services in the Nádraží Braník – Libuš section were severely disrupted for more than two hours as a result of the collision. Normalcy was only restored around 9:00 AM, with tram lines 3, 17, 21, and 27 gradually resuming their operations in the area. However, Line 21 experienced an exception, as its service remained suspended in Braník due to the presence of the crashed tram in the Levský loop, according to statements from the local transportation authority.
Richard Hrdina, the spokesperson for Prague’s law enforcement, confirmed that an investigation was launched to determine the underlying cause of the collision. Such incidents not only impact the immediate safety of passengers and operators but also disrupt the urban transportation network, causing inconvenience to commuters.
As authorities work to ascertain the factors that led to this collision, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of rigorous safety protocols and ongoing maintenance to ensure the smooth and secure functioning of public transportation systems.
