Ungelt Theatre prepares for Czech premiere of Breath of Life

lt, who also directed: ‘British playwright David Hare is well known to Ungelt viewers. He is one of Britain’s most respected playwrights and we have his play The Glass Ceiling on repertoire since 2018, which we recently played a hundred and fifty reprise!,” he recalled. “Taking a breath of life is another of Hare’s eminently chamber games. It develops what worked so well for him in the Glass Ceiling – a time-warped duel between two strong personalities who come together over the years to settle scores with the past, with the other and with themselves. But this time, the psychologically polished dialogue Hare wrote not for a lover, but for two aging rivals – a mistress and a wife.”
The author himself commented: “My heroines aren’t middle-aged anymore, but they’re not even old yet. They’re somewhere in the middle. And that’s when I wanted to capture two women, women who have had enough, but rightly expect to have more to come.”
After a long 23 years, actress Tereza Brodská returns to the stage boards. The last time she stood on them was at the Ungelt Theatre, where she and Jitka Sadly are now trying out the play To Breathe Life.
The play had its world premiere in 2002 on the West End of London with legends of British acting – Judi Dench and Maggie Smith. It has been a huge success and has subsequently been played almost all over the world, which is because of how universal its story is.
