Visit of MFA of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic

Information on official visit of H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov,

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Czech Republic

(Prague – April 22-23, 2024)

 

According to the official invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic H.E. Mr. Jan Lipavsky, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov paid an official visit to the Czech Republic on April 22-23, 2024.

On April 23rd, Minister Jan Lipavský has met with Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

The meeting revolved around the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic across political, economic, energy, humanitarian and other domains, as well as the latest regional and international developments.

The parties underscored that the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are built on solid foundations such as mutual respect and support for the norms and principles of international law, each other’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders.

The FMs emphasized that the existing high-level political dialogue between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, as well as the reciprocal visits and contacts of representatives at the level of state and government, and parliaments, had fostered the evolving of relations within both bilateral and multilateral platforms. Additionally, they stressed the importance of intensifying the activities of the bilateral economic commission.

FM Bayramov provided an insight into to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be hosted in Azerbaijan this year, noting that this prestigious event creates new prospects for the partnership between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic.

The sides praised the current level of development of economic and trade relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, as well as underscored the importance of boosting mutual investments and diversifying the existing areas of cooperation to ensure more sustainable relations.

The two also exchanged views on cooperation in the field of green energy production, as well as participation of the Czech investors in the ongoing large-scale restoration and construction projects in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from Armenian occupation, as well as the opportunities offered for the Czech transit-logistics companies at the Middle Corridor – a trade route from Southeast Asia and China to Europe via Azerbaijan and free economic zones operating in the territory of Azerbaijan.

 

The sides also underlined the importance of continuing and further deepening of successful cooperation in humanitarian, educational, cultural, youth and sports, tourism domains.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov shed light on the post-conflict situation in the region, the mine threat, and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The pair also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

During the press briefing, the ministers made statements on the results of the meeting and responded to journalists’ questions.

 

On April 23rd the Prime Minister Petr Fiala has met with the Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues arising from the existing strategic partnership relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, as well as the regional situation in the post Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict period.

Noting that last year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, the sides underlined that the high-level political dialogue, intensive reciprocal visits and contacts that have evolved between the two countries over the years have contributed to joint activities on bilateral and multilateral platforms.

The two hailed the strategic partnership between the two countries in political, economic, trade, investments, energy security, transport-communications, humanitarian and other domains.

Simultaneously, Azerbaijani FM provided an insight into the country’s COP29 chairmanship. The sides explored the possibilities of cooperation between the two countries within the COP29.

The meeting also centered around Azerbaijan`s priorities in the field of alternative energy, as well as cooperation plans with European countries, and current opportunities for cooperation with the Czech Republic.

The sides discussed the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, as well as ongoing work on the rehabilitation, reconstruction and demining of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Bayramov also highlighted the historical conditions created in the region for the establishment of peace and stability, as well as continuous efforts made by the country to evaluate the current opportunities.

During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.

 

On the same day, the Minister Mr. Jeyhun Bayramov has provided an insight into Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities during his meeting with the representatives of think tanks at the CEVRO Institute of the Czech Republic, which was moderated by Mr. Tomáš Pojar, adviser to the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic for National Security.

In his speech, Jeyhun Bayramov shed light on the primary directions of the country’s foreign policy, the current situation and prospects of Azerbaijan-Czech relations, as well as the reality and challenges of the post-conflict period, the current state of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and Azerbaijan`s efforts in the field of energy security, transport and communication in the wider region.

Highlighting the county`s active participation in the promotion of regional cooperation formats in the field of efficient struggle with the contemporary challenges, FM Bayramov mentioned Azerbaijan`s contribution towards advancing of joint projects, especially in the realms of economy, energy security, transport and communications.

The minister emphasized that following the end of the former Armenia-Azerbaijani conflict and the complete restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, new opportunities have emerged in the region in the area of peace and trust building.

Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan intends on advancing the normalization agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia on a direct bilateral basis, as well as preventing external interference on this process.

Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the meeting participants about Azerbaijan’s COP29 chairmanship.
