Ecologists give mixed review of government’s fulfillment of environmental promises

A report from environmental NGOs has stated that the Czech government has partially fulfilled its promises on ecological issues such as the development of renewable energy, soil protection and agricultural landscape, as well as European environmental protections.

However, the report also states that the government has not achieved as much progress as it had promised or was possible during the first year of its term. The report was drafted by Friends of the Earth and other members of the Green Circle, an association of 86 ecological organizations. The Agriculture Ministry dismissed some of the criticism, stating that it considers the ecological organizations to be its partners.

The report also criticized the government for its handling of forest protection and renewal, and the work of the Ministry of Agriculture in this sphere. Additionally, the ecologists criticized the lack of progress on the hunting sport law and the latest program in support of adapting forest ecosystems to climate change.
