Architectural Competition for Completion of Prague’s Vítězné náměstí Quadrant Enters Final Stage

The fourth Quadrant of Vítězné náměstí in Prague’s Dejvice district is set to undergo a transformation, with the completion of apartments, offices, essential amenities, and a new cultural center. An international architectural competition organized by the City of Prague has reached its final stage, as five finalists have been selected to present their designs. The public’s input will play a crucial role in the expert jury’s decision-making process.

The architectural competition aims to honor the original vision of architect Antonín Engel, who designed the square over a century ago. By incorporating modern trends and addressing the current needs of Dejvice residents, the completion of Vítězné náměstí will pay tribute to Engel’s legacy.

Out of 44 participating teams, the five finalists’ designs can be viewed on the competition’s website and at an exhibition held at Vítězné náměstí until June 30. The public’s opinions, collected until June 11, will be considered by the expert jury during the evaluation process.

The project entails the development of a multifunctional complex featuring residential units, offices, shops, services, restaurants, and a building dedicated to supporting students from the University of Chemistry and Technology (VŠCHT). Additionally, a new cultural center will offer space for various events, including concerts, exhibitions, and theatrical performances.

The architectural competition has attracted prominent European firms and top Czech teams, resulting in diverse design proposals that respect Engel’s original concept while embracing contemporary architectural trends. The project aims to create high-quality indoor and outdoor spaces that cater to relaxation, culture, dining, and commerce.

The winning design will be chosen by an international jury comprising architects, urban planners, landscape architects, and representatives from the investor, VŠCHT, Prague 6 district, Prague City Hall, and the Institute of Planning and Development. The announcement of the winner is expected in September of this year.

In addition to the architectural competition, the construction of a new building with a supermarket, undertaken by Penta Real Estate, is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The ground floor of the building will be owned by the Prague 6 district and will serve as a significant municipal supermarket.

The completion of Vítězné náměstí and the development of the surrounding area aim to create a vibrant and attractive space that meets the needs of both academics and residents, contributing to the overall enhancement of the urban environment.
