Closure Alert: Chlumecká Street in Prague 14 to Shut Down Temporarily for Vital Footbridge Assembly

Prague braces for a notable disruption as Chlumecká Street, a vital thoroughfare catering to both inbound and outbound traffic, is set to close from midnight on November 16 until November 19. The closure is a result of crucial assembly work on a footbridge linked to the upcoming railway stop Rajská Zahrada, adjacent to a metro station sharing the same name.

The decision to close Chlumecká Street stems from the necessity of assembling a part of the footbridge connecting the railway stop to Borská Street on the Hutě side. This assembly is pivotal for the launch of train services stopping at the platform between Vysočany and Mstětice, scheduled to commence on December 10.

Deputy Mayor of Prague 14, Soňa Tománková, explained the inevitability of the street closure, stating, “It is unfortunately impossible to install the last part of the footbridge without completely closing Chlumecká Street.” Two out of three sections of the footbridge have been in place since the summer, connecting various points crucial for the new train stop’s functionality.

While this closure is scheduled to last until November 19, further restrictions will affect drivers from November 20 to December 11, as the assembly work progresses. Notably, the closure will impact travel plans for residents and commuters in the area, emphasizing the significance of adjusting routes during this period.

The footbridge assembly, undertaken to enhance connectivity and facilitate efficient transit options, has already prompted lane closures in both directions on Chlumecká. It’s imperative for motorists to anticipate and plan for these disruptions, considering alternative routes during the stipulated closure period and subsequent restrictions.

As the city approaches winter, climatic conditions may impact the pace of the assembly work. Consequently, the completion of the footbridge assembly has been strategically postponed to a more suitable period, underscoring the commitment to both efficiency and safety in this significant infrastructure project.
