Czech Republic Braces for Prolonged Heatwave with Record-High Temperatures

Meteorologists at the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) have issued a forecast predicting that the Czech Republic will experience record-high temperatures until the beginning of September. Following a period of cooler weather, the country is now entering a phase of above-average temperatures, with the weekly average reaching extreme levels.

The forecast covers the period from August 14th to September 10th. According to CHMI, the upcoming weeks are set to be some of the warmest since 1931. While temperatures are expected to gradually decrease in the second half of the following week (August 21st to 28th), the weekly temperature will likely remain above average. In the subsequent two weeks leading up to September 10th, temperatures are projected to hover around the border of average and above-average values.

Throughout this week, temperatures are anticipated to repeatedly exceed the thirty-degree Celsius mark, with Saturday forecasted to reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius. Despite the heat, meteorologists do not foresee significant variations in precipitation levels over the forecasted weeks.

The first week of the forecast is expected to be relatively dry, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in localized areas due to thunderstorms. In the subsequent weeks, precipitation is predicted to remain around normal levels, albeit with some uncertainty in the last week of the forecast. Overall, the period from mid-August to September 14th is expected to see average precipitation levels.

CHMI emphasizes that the monthly outlook offers a general overview of the weather’s character and does not account for all potential fluctuations. The forecast has an approximate success rate of 75% for temperature predictions and around 65% for precipitation predictions. The accuracy of the forecast for the third and fourth weeks often aligns with long-term climatic values for those respective timeframes.

Given the intensity and duration of this impending heatwave, Czech citizens are strongly encouraged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and other potential challenges posed by the high temperatures.
