Czech Republic to Open Embassy in Qatar

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský has started a two-day working visit to Qatar yesterday, October 26, during which visit, he will officially open the first Czech embassy in the capital of Qatar, Doha

Through a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the main purpose of this visit would be to support trade and cooperation between these two countries in the energy field, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“During the visit, the Czech Foreign Minister will present the priorities of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU in relation to the EU’s strategic cooperation with the Gulf and energy security,” the statement reads.

According to the Ministry, the topic of discussion at the meeting will also be that of Russia and the situation in Ukraine.

At the same time, Qatar’s preparations for the World Cup will also be discussed from the point of view of the consular services of the Czech Embassy in Doha.

On October 10, the Qatari authorities announced the same move, revealing that in the following month, Qatar will open an embassy in the capital of the Czech Republic.

At the time, during a joint conference, Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the Czech Republic, Milos Zeman, also reached an agreement on economic partnership.

As President Zeman explains, the diplomatic mission has already started working in Doha. In addition, he emphasizes that the foundations of long-term strategic cooperation between the two countries have already been laid. Earlier this year, the Czech Republic also opened its embassy in Doha.

At the same time, the ambassador expressed the long-term vision to keep the newly built infrastructure operational long after the event for the benefit of not only the people of Qatar but also the entire region and the world.

Ambassador Chalupsky also added that both countries have a lot in common when it comes to a strategic approach to the modernization of the economy through the construction of modern infrastructure, as well as digitalization and investment in the latest technologies.

Moreover, the ambassador announced that the main areas where the two countries aim for their cooperation are the tourism industry, especially in the hotel and spa business, and the development of the wider tourist infrastructure.
