The award is named in honor of Rusty Tanner, who has long been editor-in-chief of the Censorship Index magazine. Annually the award is awarded to a person or organization that conducts active activities aimed at the dissemination and popularization of Czech literature abroad.

This year she was supposed to get the author of Ukrainian origin Svetlana Alexievich, but due to illness she could not come to Prague and decided that “award worthy Ukrainian delegation of writers representing a courageous country we admire and in in victory in which we believe! “.
