German Locomotive Drivers’ Strike Disrupts Czech-German Train Services; Travelers Urged to Check Updates
A strike initiated by German locomotive drivers is poised to significantly impact train services between the Czech Republic and Germany, causing disruptions and altering travel plans. Deutsche Bahn, the major German transport provider, announced a service restriction with no trains departing from Berlin to Prague on Thursday. Trains heading in the opposite direction will conclude their journey in Dresden. The strike is scheduled to commence on Wednesday at 10:00 PM and is expected to persist until 6:00 PM on Thursday.
Czech Railways has issued a warning, indicating that the EC 458 train, originally bound for Zurich, will terminate its route in Děčín. A similar arrangement applies to a segment of trains destined for Berlin, while others are anticipated to conclude their service in Dresden. However, certain connections, such as those from Prague through Plzen to Munich and select regional cross-border routes, are expected to remain unaffected.
Travelers planning transit through Germany on November 15 and 16 are advised that their tickets can be utilized anytime from November 15 to 23. The requirement for tickets to be tied to a specific train during this period has been lifted by Czech Railways, offering greater flexibility for affected passengers.
The strike, instigated by German locomotive drivers demanding higher wages, has drawn criticism from Deutsche Bahn. Martin Seiler, the HR Director of DB, labeled the decision to strike as absurd, especially given its proximity to another planned negotiation. Transport providers urge passengers to stay updated on the evolving situation by checking their websites for real-time information.
As the strike unfolds, the potential impact on Friday, November 17, connections remains uncertain, highlighting the need for travelers to stay vigilant and informed about any further developments that may affect their travel plans.
