Production on the second season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire, previously slated to film in Prague through the end of August, has come to a halt due to the current SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, Deadline has confirmed. The production was about three-and-a-half months into its five-month shoot.

To date, Interview with the Vampire has shot at Prague’s Barrandov Studio along with numerous locations in Prague’s city center including areas near Prague Castle, Old Town Square, and the historic Estates Theatre. The Czech capital is primarily playing WWII-era Paris in the series.

Interview with the Vampire, based on the Anne Rice novel that was previously adapted into a 1994 film, stars Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson in the lead roles of immortal vampires. Delainey Hayles, Eric Bogosian, Assad Zaman, and Ben Daniels also feature among the primary cast for the second season.

An upcoming San Diego Comic-Con panel featuring cast members from Interview with the Vampire has also been cancelled, but AMC will still present an immersive experience for fans called the Street of Immortality at the San Diego event.

Official word on the two other large-scale productions shooting in Prague this summer, the third seasons of both Apple TV+’s Foundation and Amazon Studios’ The Wheel of Time, has not been made.

Both Foundation and The Wheel of Time feature multiple SAG-AFTRA members, including stars Rosamund Pike and Jared Harris, and would presumably be affected to some degree if they continue their shooting schedule in the Czech Republic.

While many film and TV productions in the United States came to an immediate halt last week with the announcement of the SAG-AFTRA strike, there’s a lack of clarity surrounding many international productions.

The second season of HBO’s House of the Dragon, for example, will continue to film in the United Kingdom during the actor strike. Many of its cast members are affiliated with the UK guild Equity, who stand in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA but advise their members of what the union calls “draconian” UK industrial relations legislation.

“A performer joining the strike (or refusing to cross a picket line) in the UK will have no protection against being dismissed or sued for breach of contract by the producer or the engager,” reads an official Equity statement regarding the SAG-AFTRA strike. “Likewise, if Equity encourages anyone to join the strike or not cross a picket line, Equity itself will be acting unlawfully and hence liable for damages or an injunction.”

Even if the strike is resolved quickly, affected productions could see lengthy delays. During the Covid pandemic in 2020-21, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier made it back to the Czech capital in about six months, while The Wheel of Time and Carnival Row saw production interruptions of more than a year.
