Investing in Insulation: A Key to Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings

In today’s world, where energy efficiency is increasingly emphasized, one of the most effective ways to save energy and reduce costs is through proper insulation of roofs and walls. Not only does insulation help lower energy bills, but it also contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Studies have shown that heating bills for insulated homes are about half the cost of uninsulated ones. This makes insulation of roofs, walls, and windows a fundamental step in achieving energy savings. With the availability of state subsidies, the return on investment for insulation can be as short as five years or less.

When it comes to insulation materials, mineral wool and polystyrene are the most commonly used options for wall and roof insulation. Additionally, sprayed foam or blown-in insulation is often used for roofs. It is crucial to choose the right insulation material that suits the specific needs of your property. For example, the use of sprayed foam insulation in older homes, such as cottages, may be subject to debate. Some homeowners even opt to replace polystyrene with mineral wool during renovation projects. Ultimately, the choice of insulation material depends on the “price-performance” ratio and the desired quality of work, taking into account the property type and its usage patterns.

By insulating just the roof, thermal losses can be reduced by up to twenty percent. The cost of insulating a standard roof is estimated to be around one hundred thousand crowns. It is important to consider the coefficient of heat transfer, which expresses the properties of glazing and frames. The standard allows for a value of 1.7 W/m²·K.

For windows, high-quality options used in passive houses can have a Uw value as low as 0.8 W/m²·K. Under the New Green Savings Light program, subsidies of up to 18,000 crowns can be utilized for one entrance door, and 12,000 crowns for one window. It is possible to receive subsidies for up to one entrance door and eleven windows, according to Roman Kubálek from Vekra.

Investing in insulation not only brings immediate benefits in terms of energy savings and cost reduction but also contributes to a greener and more sustainable future. It is an important step towards creating a comfortable living or working environment while reducing our carbon footprint.
