Monkeys Escape from Decin Zoo Enclosure, Public Urged to Be Cautious

The Decin Zoo in the Usti Region has reopened its doors to visitors today after a temporary closure due to the escape of a group of crested macaques from their enclosure. However, the escaped monkeys have yet to be recaptured, causing concerns among zookeepers and local authorities.

Police have initiated an investigation into a 42-year-old man who is suspected of damaging the electric fence of the monkey enclosure, which allowed the animals to escape. The incident occurred on Monday evening, after the zoo’s closing time. Police officers were alerted to the situation and managed to apprehend the suspect, who tested positive for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the main psychoactive component of cannabis. The man was subsequently taken into custody.

Out of the nine crested macaques that escaped, six managed to leave the zoo premises. So far, two of the monkeys have been recaptured, while one remains within the zoo grounds. The whereabouts of the remaining three monkeys are still unknown, raising concerns about their safety and the potential impact on the surrounding area.

Zookeepers are urging the public to exercise caution and report any sightings of the escaped macaques to the zoo authorities. It is essential to approach the monkeys with care, as they may exhibit unpredictable behavior when outside their usual environment. The zoo is working closely with local authorities and experts to develop a comprehensive plan to safely locate and retrieve the remaining escaped animals.

The incident has generated significant attention and concern within the community. The Decin Zoo is a popular attraction, and the escape of the macaques has highlighted the need for enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The safety and well-being of both the animals and the visitors are of paramount importance, and steps will be taken to reinforce the enclosures and ensure the highest standards of security are upheld.

Efforts to locate and capture the escaped monkeys are ongoing, and the zoo is fully committed to resolving the situation promptly. The collaboration between the zoo, local authorities, and the public will be crucial in ensuring the successful retrieval of the remaining macaques and the continued safety of all involved.
