Moroccan Soufism – An Ode to Dialogue and Mutual Understanding

On 18 June 2026, the historic gardens of the Černín Palace, seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, hosted the cultural and diplomatic event ‘Moroccan Soufism – An Ode to Dialogue and Mutual Understanding’. The evening was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Prague, led by H.E. Hanane Saadi, and the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The programme brought together diplomats, government officials, academics, artists and members of Prague’s international community. Through lectures, music, art and gastronomy, Morocco presented the richness of its spiritual heritage while emphasizing dialogue, peace and mutual respect.

Soufism represents the mystical dimension of Islam, focusing on the believer’s inner journey toward God through love, humility, compassion and self-discipline. For centuries, Sufi brotherhoods have shaped Morocco’s religious, cultural and intellectual life, promoting moderation, education, charity and peaceful coexistence.

Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has continued to promote this moderate tradition of Islam and intercultural dialogue. Music, poetry and spiritual contemplation remain central elements of Moroccan Soufi heritage, beautifully illustrated during the performance by the Al Firdaus Ensemble and the symbolic dance of a whirling dervish.

H.E. Hanane Saadi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Czech Republic since 2018, has devoted much of her diplomatic career to strengthening intercultural dialogue. Before arriving in Prague, she served in several senior diplomatic positions, including Consul General in Palma de Mallorca. Throughout her tenure she has organized numerous cultural initiatives introducing Moroccan history, art, religion and traditions to Czech audiences.

The lecture by Soufi scholar Reda Belhaj highlighted the universal values of Moroccan Soufism, while an exhibition of contemporary Soufi-inspired art and a tasting of authentic Moroccan cuisine completed the evening.

The event demonstrated that cultural diplomacy can create understanding beyond politics. Against the elegant backdrop of the Baroque gardens of Černín Palace, ‘Moroccan Soufism – An Ode to Dialogue and Mutual Understanding’ became one of the most memorable cultural events of Prague’s diplomatic season.
