In a comprehensive nationwide police check conducted last Friday across Czech roads, involving approximately 5,000 vehicles, alarming statistics have emerged: more than one-fifth of drivers were found to have exceeded speed limits. The revelation comes as a stark reminder of the persistent issue of speeding on Czech roads, with police spokesperson Hana Rubasova highlighting the concerning trend on the police website today.

According to Rubasova, the police patrols’ efforts on January 26 were primarily focused on monitoring speed limits, resulting in the detection of speeding violations in a staggering 1,099 cases. Out of this number, immediate action was taken in 1,047 instances, with fines swiftly imposed on the offenders. The total sum collected in on-the-spot fines amounted to a substantial 1.9 million crowns, reflecting the severity of the issue and the need for stringent enforcement measures.

Moreover, in a demonstration of the authorities’ firm stance against reckless driving behavior, police officers exercised their new authority to suspend driving licenses on the spot for ten drivers caught excessively speeding. This power, granted to the Czech police at the beginning of the year, underscores the government’s commitment to cracking down on traffic violations that endanger public safety. The suspension of driving licenses serves as a clear deterrent against reckless driving practices, aiming to mitigate the risks of tragic accidents on Czech roads.
