Populist Babis, ex-general Pavel advance to 2nd round of Czech presidential election

Billionaire Andrej Babis and retired general Petr Pavel will be facing each other in the second round of the Czech presidential election, as no candidate received enough votes to win an outright majority in the first round held on Saturday.

According to results published by the Czech Statistical Office, Babis received 35.65% of the vote and Pavel received 34.73%. Economist Danuse Nerudova, the only woman among the eight candidates, came in third with 13.79%. The second round of voting will take place in two weeks.
