Prague Water Utility Advises Caution When Filling Backyard Pools and Offers Tanker Services
As the summer swimming season begins, Prague Water and Sewerage (PVK) is urging residents to exercise caution when filling their backyard pools. The public water supply network is not primarily designed for pool filling, and there are potential risks associated with it. PVK recommends a slow filling process, preferably during nighttime, to mitigate these risks. To provide added convenience, PVK offers tanker services that will deliver water directly to customers’ designated locations.
Filling pools directly from the public water supply network can lead to cloudy water due to sediment release caused by the high flow velocity in the pipes. Furthermore, there is a risk of pressure drop in the network, which may affect other water consumers. To avoid these issues, PVK spokesperson Tomáš Mrázek advises filling pools with water from tankers.
CVMEM, a service provider, offers tanker services for pool filling. They can be contacted at +420 601 394 730 or via email. The tankers have a capacity of 9 cubic meters (approximately 9,000 liters) and will deliver water directly to customers’ pools. The cost of the service depends on the distance to the destination, with rates ranging from 2,000 CZK to 4,250 CZK, along with value-added tax (VAT) and an additional charge for waiting time on-site.
While filling pools directly from the public network is not recommended, PVK acknowledges that some residents may still choose to do so. In such cases, it is advised to fill the pool slowly and outside peak hours. Nighttime filling, particularly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., helps prevent pressure drops and sediment release. It is also recommended to fill the pool before hot weather arrives, preferably on weekdays.
PVK spokesperson Mrázek mentioned that the company had not encountered any critical issues with residents filling pools directly from the network. However, he emphasized the benefits of using tanker services to avoid potential problems and ensure the quality of pool water.
Last year, approximately 300 customers availed themselves of the tanker service, with many becoming repeat customers. PVK encourages residents to consider this convenient and reliable option for filling their pools while maintaining the integrity of the public water supply network.
