Prague’s Klementinum Sees Relatively Warm Spring, Consistent with Recent Years
The meteorological spring in Prague’s Klementinum maintained an average temperature of 11.1 degrees Celsius, aligning with recent trends but leaning toward the warmer side when observed in the context of long-term data.
An analysis of information from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute covering a period of 249 years revealed that only about one-seventh of springs experienced higher temperatures than the current year.
The average temperature from the beginning of March to the end of May this year was 0.2 degrees Celsius lower than the norm calculated based on data collected between 1991 and 2020. However, it stood 1.6 degrees warmer when compared to the average temperature recorded from 1775 to 2014.
Regarding the ranking of temperature, this year’s spring in Klementinum fell between the 36th and 41st positions out of the 249 recorded springs. In other words, approximately 14% of the springs exhibited higher temperatures than the current year’s spring.
The warmest spring recorded in Klementinum since 1775 was in 2007, with an average temperature of 13.3 degrees Celsius. The second warmest was documented in 2018, boasting an average temperature of 13 degrees Celsius. Conversely, the coldest spring on record was in 1785, with an average temperature as low as 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Overall, this year’s spring in Prague’s Klementinum displayed relatively warm weather patterns that aligned with recent years. However, it is noteworthy that the spring ranked higher in terms of temperature when examined over a long-term historical perspective.
