In a transformative wave of technological innovation, Czech cities are embracing cutting-edge surveillance cameras that extend beyond traditional security measures, ushering in the era of smart cities. The Urban Camera Surveillance System (MKDS) is a prevalent feature in many cities, typically operated by local police and shared with the Czech Police. While basic surveillance functions are common, some cities are leveraging intelligent technologies to significantly boost system efficiency and enhance crime prevention.

Cities like Plzen and Ostrava are at the forefront of this revolution, introducing cameras equipped with the Sound Event Detector (SED) from Pilsen-based company Jalud Embedded. Integrated either as a separate sensor or as software directly into the cameras, these algorithms can detect potential threats in real-time, such as shouting, gunfire, or breaking glass. The system then triggers an alarm to the operations center, automatically directing the cameras to the specific location.

Another notable advancement is the adoption of multi-sensor cameras, which consolidate several high-resolution lenses into a single body. Despite being technically one camera, it performs the tasks of three to four individual cameras. This innovation enables operators to scrutinize or identify objects with precision, while the entire captured area retains high-resolution recording for forensic analysis.

Beyond fixed surveillance systems, the introduction of mobile camera systems marks a significant stride in adaptive surveillance. These cameras can be strategically placed to address specific surveillance needs, enabling operational crime prevention and targeted security responses based on real-time situations. Mobile cameras also serve additional purposes, such as monitoring traffic flow and parking, including license plate readings.

The integration of intelligent technology into the urban fabric of Czech cities signals progress towards safer and more efficient urban environments. As these camera systems evolve and become more sophisticated, they hold the promise of enhancing public safety, optimizing city operations, and providing invaluable tools for law enforcement and city management.
