The number of parcels in the Czech Post network before Christmas is lower than in previous years

Czech Post has reported a weaker pre-Christmas rush in comparison to previous years. Over the weekend, the company had 420,000 parcels in its distribution network, which is about 2.5 times more than usual. The Post Office is expecting to see 54 million parcel shipments for the whole year, which is around two million less than last year. The decrease is attributed to the impact of COVID-19 on the number of parcels sent by mail.

Additionally, there has been a steady decline in traditional mail in favor of electronic forms of communication. However, online postcard delivery is growing, where a sender sends an electronic photo, and the Post Office creates a postcard from it. There has also been a decline in the number of items sent from abroad, particularly packages from e-shops in non-EU countries such as China, the USA, and the UK. Despite this, The Post Office has not hired any temporary workers this year and instead, handled the pre-Christmas rush hour with agency employees by setting up logistics processes.
