Türkiye, Czech Republic discuss cooperation in defence, security

The Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, met with his Czech counterpart, Jana Cernochova, in Prague to discuss regional defense and security cooperation, as well as bilateral relations. Ahead of the meeting, Cernochova received Akar with a military honor in the Czech capital.

The visit is considered an important development between the two nations and follows a historic visit by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, last June. Türkiye and Czech Republic have established diplomatic ties in 1924 and have enjoyed friendly relations despite a cessation of diplomatic relations from 1939 to 1945 during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia.

Both countries are members of NATO which intensifies military cooperation between them. The two countries hold regular political meetings on the highest level and on the levels of different ministries and parliamentary committees.
