Vaclav Žmolík is reinventing the wine regions. This time through the Landscape of Wine after Slovakia

On Thursday, February 22, the Slovak Institute in Prague was attended by the creators and The Slovak Ambassador in Prague, Ingrid Brock, a journalistic projection of a new series of Travelogues of Czech Television, The Landscape of Wine, in Slovakia. In the six-part series, the spectators are accompanied by Václav Žmolík through the Slovak wine regions from the Lesser Carpathians, across the danube river, to the border with Ukraine. The show originated in TS Brno in cooperation with Zväzom vinohradníkov and vinárov Slovenska.  Part of the presentation was a thematic wine tasting from the National Wine Salon of the Slovak Republic.
Wine travelogue The landscape of wine after Slovakia is about wine, but not only wine. It also features gastronomy and, most importantly, classic travel oeuvres of interesting places. It can serve not only as a guide to Slovak wines, but also as a tip for an extended trip: tourist destinations in each installment can be reached in about three days with good planning. Beautiful days condensed into 26 minutes of breathtaking footage that shows interesting places in which Vaclav Žmolík discovers the flavours and aromas of Slovak wines and enjoys landscapes and sights in mouthfuls.
Travelling the regions where vines thrive is the third series of the wine landscape cycle. This time the staff went to the east of our border and travelled through the Slovak wine-growing regions.
The third series of the wine landscape series will offer travel around the regions where the vines thrive. This time, the staff is heading east from our borders and will travel through the Slovak wine regions from the Lesser Carpathians, through the surrounding River Danube, to the border with Ukraine. The six-part series landscape of wine around Slovakia is broadcast by ČT2 from March 6, 2024 on Wednesdays at 2pm. Directed by Jan Těšitel.
“Filming meant a battle with the weather for us in particular. We wanted to show the audience all these amazing places in the best possible light, give them tips for trips, and it was the weather that made these efforts difficult for us sometimes,” director Jan Těšitel recalls. “But I believe that in the end, thanks to the whole crew, we succeeded, and there are a wonderful six episodes waiting for the viewer, literally to the brim filled with natural and cultural beauties and especially Slovak wine!,” he adds.
“Travelling in Slovakia was full of surprises for me. In particular, I found that I knew very little about Slovak wines and winemakers, and I really enjoyed educating myself in this way,” says the author of the screenplay and guide to the show, Václav Žmolík. In the same breath, he adds tips on wine tourism: “Near the vineyards there are really appealing destinations for cyclists, pedestrians and motorized tourists. Among the unusual places are definitely the tooth fields in the Tribeč mountains or the historical cellars dug centuries ago in various parts of Slovakia. And the Tokaje region in the southeast of Slovakia, I can’t help but be reminded of the Moray Pálava. It’s also a magical, well-defined corner of the earth.”
The shoot was accompanied by meetings with local, often top winemakers, who collect gold medals at prestigious world shows. “A spatially so extensive cycle is very time-consuming, we were on our feet from dawn to dusk, but almost every person, whether winemaker, historian or local guide and patriot had an open heart for us. This warmth was then transferred to the camera shots,” entices ivo Cicvárek, a dramaturge, to watch. He adds another observation: “If I were to find one word to define the entire set, it would be accommodating. In Slovakia, a huge number of people watch czech television and love it.”
Viewers can also enjoy a wine and food match. ‘The best chefs cooked, baked and fried for us, so we’ll offer plenty of inspiration.  Not only the choice of courses, but plain food at first sight, like stuffed peppers, will be eaten. But they were!” adds Václav Žmolík.
The travelogue was created in the Television Studio Of The Czech Republic in cooperation with Zväzom vinohradníkov and vinárov Slovenska. Reruns of each episode will be shown by ČT2 on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
