40 percent of Czechs fear losing their jobs, a survey finds

The Czech Republic is facing a rising fear of job loss as the economy struggles due to the pandemic. According to the Workmonitor survey conducted by Randstad, a recruitment agency, 40% of Czechs are afraid of losing their jobs. The survey also found that 25% of the population is dealing with their worsening financial situation by taking on a second job or postponing retirement. Additionally, more than half of the population requires the ability to work from home.

The importance of job security has increased as a result of the pandemic, with 95% of Czechs considering it important, 4 percentage points higher than the previous year. Half of the respondents are worried about the impact of the economic situation on their job security.

The survey also found that employees are looking for help from their employers to deal with the rising cost of living. Half of the respondents prefer to increase their wages, while a third want to be compensated for travel, utilities, and other everyday expenses.

Despite the uncertainty in the economy, work-life balance is becoming increasingly important for employees. 40% of survey participants said they would leave their jobs if it negatively impacted their lives, while 35% changed jobs due to toxic workplace environments and 30% because their work did not fit with their personal lives.

The ability to work remotely is essential for 53% of Czechs, up 6 percentage points from the previous year. Furthermore, two-thirds of workers want their employers’ values and goals to align with their own, while half want their work to be meaningful and make them feel like they belong.
