A hurricane hit Sněžka

Sněžka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, was hit by a severe hurricane with a speed of over 141 km/h on Monday. This was higher than the hurricane limit of 117.7 km/h, which is a common occurrence in January on the mountain. Despite its relatively low altitude of 1,603 meters, the climate on Sněžka is arctic and mountainous, making it a challenging location for those visiting.

In comparison, the wind was only blowing at 20 km/h at Luční bouda, a nearby location which is approximately 200 meters lower in altitude. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute warned of strong winds in most areas in the country, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h in lower and middle altitudes, and up to 110 km/h in the mountains. The strongest winds were expected in the Krkonoše and Jizera Mountains.

Sněžka is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful views and challenging hiking trails. However, visitors are warned to be cautious during high wind conditions, as they can make the already treacherous conditions even more dangerous.
