Czech Republic Braces for Above-Average Winter Temperatures Ahead of Christmas, CHMI Long-Term Forecast Reveals

In a notable departure from the recent wintry conditions, the Czech Republic is poised to experience a period of above-average temperatures leading up to Christmas, as indicated by the latest long-term forecast from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI).

The forecast covers the four-week period from December 11th to January 7th, providing valuable insights for residents, businesses, and policymakers as they plan for the upcoming holiday season. Even in the current week, the CHMI predicts relatively warm temperatures, with some days reaching up to 9 degrees Celsius. The week preceding Christmas is expected to bring a further uptick in temperatures, creating a more moderate and comfortable environment for festive activities.

“While the end of the year and the beginning of the next will be accompanied by slightly colder weather, with weekly temperature values around average,” stated the CHMI, offering a nuanced perspective on the evolving winter conditions.

Despite the shift towards warmer temperatures, the Czech Republic is not entirely spared from precipitation. Following a pronounced period of above-average precipitation since the second decade of November, meteorologists anticipate at least one more week with heightened precipitation in the current forecast. However, in the subsequent three weeks covered by the forecast, precipitation levels are projected to return to the seasonal average.

The forecast suggests that the Czech Republic will experience rainfall leading up to Christmas, coupled with occasional snowfall in mountainous regions. Notably, post-Christmas, there is an expectation of snowfall extending to lower altitudes, providing a picturesque winter landscape beyond the holiday festivities.

This detailed forecast from the CHMI equips individuals, businesses, and authorities with essential information to navigate the evolving weather patterns effectively, ensuring that preparations for the holiday season are well-informed and adaptable to the anticipated climatic conditions.
