Embassy of Denmark in the Czech Republic

50 years ago Denmark decided to approve free and legal access to abortion. The Abortion Act of 1973 was an important step towards gender equality and bodily autonomy in Denmark.
Complications caused by unsafe abortions lead to the hospitalization of millions of women and adolescent girls worldwide each year. Restricting access to abortion does not reduce the number of abortions – it just makes them more dangerous.
Globally, Denmark is advocating for access to safe abortion and the right of women and girls to decide with whom and how many children they want to have.
