False accusations were not brought about by changing the definition of rape

The Czech Republic’s Ministry of Justice has denied accusations that recent changes to the definition of rape in the criminal code have led to false accusations. The changes, which came into effect in January 2021, expanded the definition of rape to include situations where the victim is unable to give their consent, such as when they are unconscious or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Critics have argued that the changes could lead to false accusations, but the Ministry of Justice has stated that there has been no increase in false accusations since the changes came into effect. The Ministry also said that the changes were necessary to better protect victims and to align the country’s legislation with international standards.
