The Czech Republic is grappling with heightened flood concerns as heavy rains and melting snow prompt flood warnings in 55 locations. The Vltava River in Český Krumlov is currently under the highest level of flood activity, known as the third level (SPA), emphasizing the severity of the situation.

The flood threat extends beyond Český Krumlov, with ten stations reporting the second level of flood activity, indicating a state of readiness. These locations include areas along the upper course of the Elbe in Vestřev, the Trutnov region, and the lower course in Litoměřice, Ústí nad Labem, and Děčín.

As of 5:30 am, over 40 locations have recorded the lowest level of flood alert, according to data from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ).

On Wednesday, just before 6 pm, the Vltava River in Český Krumlov reached the third level of flood activity, with the water level hitting 221 centimeters. Authorities anticipate that the water level will persist at the third level for an extended period due to increased water release from the Lipno reservoir.

Preparations are underway as the flood committee secures critical areas along the river, deploying approximately 1,000 sandbags. A crisis hotline (380 766 222) remains operational to address emergency situations.

Flood alerts are also in effect for several other rivers, including Cidlina in Nový Bydžov, Orlice in Týniště nad Orlicí, Divoká Orlice in Orlické Záhoří, Úpa in Zlíč, and Ohře under the Skalka reservoir in Cheb.

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute issues a warning of further rising water levels across most of the country, especially in Šumava, the Giant Mountains, and the Orlické Mountains. Additionally, strong winds are expected, particularly in the southern half of Bohemia, with gusts exceeding speeds of 65 kilometers per hour in some areas. While precipitation is predicted to subside, and the wind is expected to diminish by the evening, ongoing vigilance and preparedness are crucial to navigate through this challenging weather situation.
