Interview with the Vampire has resumed production in Prague this week following a roughly 10-week hiatus due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The AMC TV series reached a rare agreement with the actors’ union to continue filming in Europe despite the strike, as did The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which is slated to start filming its second season this fall.

Prague production on the second season of Interview with the Vampire began in April before being paused in mid-July with about five weeks of shooting left on the schedule. In addition to Barrandov Studio, the series has shot around city-center landmarks including Prague Castle, Old Town Square, the Estates Theatre, and the Vyšehrad fortress.

Remaining production on Interview with the Vampire will run through early November, and should allow the shoot to wrap without being affected by adverse weather. Temperatures in Prague are currently unseasonably high (in the mid-20s Celsius/mid-70s Fahrenheit), but should significantly cool over the course of the month.

From early next week, Interview with the Vampire is slated to film in central Prague’s tourist-trafficked Malá Strana neighborhood, by the steps leading up to Prague Castle (Zámecké schody). Portions of nearby Thunovská and Nerudová streets have been reserved for filming equipment from October 9 through 12.

An adaptation of the Anne Rice novel that spawned a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, Interview with the Vampire moved production of its second season in Prague after shooting its first in New Orleans. The series’ second season stars Sam Reid, Jacob Anderson, Delainey Hayles, Eric Bogosian, and Assad Zaman, among others.

Prague is playing Paris in the 1940s for the series, as well as other locations and time periods. Earlier location work for Interview with the Vampire in Prague included the French capital’s distinctive blue street signs.

The AMC series is one of two major vampire productions to shoot in Prague this year, following Robert Eggers‘ remake of Nosferatu, which wrapped production in the Czech capital this spring. The classic vampire tale starring Bill Skarsgård and Willem Dafoe has reportedly been test screening ahead of a 2024 release in cinemas.

Interview with the Vampire was one of three major Hollywood productions shooting in Prague over the summer when the SAG-AFTRA strike was announced.

Work has continued on the third season of Amazon Studios’ The Wheel of Time uninterrupted despite the strike, while filming for the third season of Apple TV’s Foundation was halted halfway through production; the epic sci-fi series based on the work of Isaac Asimov now seems unlikely to continue its Prague shoot until next year.

The second seasons of both The Wheel of Time and Foundation, which were also shot in Prague in 2022, are now streaming on their respective platforms.
