More than four-fifths of The Czech Republic’s population reads the press

The current results of the media project’s unified nationwide reading research show that in the period from 1. 1 to 5 p.m. 12. 2023, 81% of the Population of the Czech Republic aged 12 to 79 were readers of the press. This proportion of readers in the population is stable over the long term. The diaries and their supplements were read by 58% of respondents from this population and even by an average of almost three quarters of this population.
THE MEDIA PROJECT has the longest tradition of implementation in the Czech Republic and these days marks the 30th anniversary since its launch. According to current media project research results, compared to the entire population, above average press readers are members of a number of prestigious, advertising-interesting and creditable socio-demographic populations. “These include members of the upper socio-economic classes A and B, health workers, teachers, undergraduates, scientists or managers and entrepreneurs”, said Ing. Vaclav Mach, executive director of the Czech Publishing Union, on the occasion of the publication of the results.
On the Website of the Czech Publishers’ Union, in the Section Media Data/Reading Research, you can learn about a detailed presentation containing basic information about the reading of individual titles, their ranking in the respective genre groups, but also about the intervention of the press in some premium target groups and about the titles most followed and read by these citizens. In the presentation you will also find an overview of the development of research over the past 30 years of its existence. As part of the presentation of the research results for last year, the current advertising campaign PRINT WORKS (www.tiskfunguje.cz) was also presented in support of print media in more than 100 published printed and online titles, which relies on data from media PROJECT research and data from the audit of printed, distributed and sold costs of periodical printing of the ABC CR.
The latest data from media project research for the 1st quarter 2023 to the 4th quarter 2023, published on Thursday, February 8, 2024, showed that press titles, despite the effects of rising inflation, appealed to a significant majority of the population in the Czech Republic. More than 8 out of 10 Czech residents aged between 12 and 79 years read the press titles. The total press coverage is 81% of the population. A total of 58% of the population addressed the diaries and their annexes. The reader of at least one magazine published in the Czech Republic is 74% of czech citizens aged 12 – 79, i.e. absolutely 6.47 million people. The total readership of all press titles per issue is more than 63% of the population aged 12-79, the readership of journals and their attachments is 33%, the readership of journals per issue is 55%.
