Should a Czech bury Czech industry?

STAN has apparently decided that if its candidate to the EU Commission is Danuše Nerudová, the economics portfolio it will want is the regional-development post now headed by Cohesion and Reforms Commissioner Elisa Ferreira of Portugal. STAN Chair Vít Rakušan said yesterday that he considers Nerudová to be sufficiently knowledgable to join the Commission and especially to have the regional-development post. Nerudová told E15 that the CR is one of the most industrialized countries in Europe and that the green transition will affect it more than other countries, so it should ask for the portfolio that implements the Green Deal. However, ex-Commissioner Pavel Telička told MFD in April that those who think that the Green Deal will be changed in any significant way in the next period or that the 2035 date for ending sales of combustion engines will be changed are wrong. If he’s right, the question the Fiala cabinet must ask is whether a Czech should be the one to bury Czech industry.
