Ukrainian Refugees Paid CZK 8 Billion Into The Czech Welfare System in 2022

In a recent statement, Czech Republic’s Labor and Social Affairs Minister, Marian Jurecka, announced that refugees from Ukraine who found jobs in the country paid roughly 8 billion Czech koruna (CZK) into the state welfare system last year. Of this sum, over 4 billion CZK went towards the country’s health insurance system.

Jurecka stated that over 171,000 refugees have worked in the Czech Republic, with the current number standing at just under 100,000. Some of these refugees have left the country or are searching for different employment opportunities.

War refugees with visa protection are able to find jobs without any obstacles and do not require a work permit in the Czech Republic. However, as with other foreigners, their employers must announce their recruitment to the labor office.

Additionally, the minister shared that the Czech Republic has received support in the form of hundreds of millions of crowns from the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) to aid in the refugees’ language and adaptation courses. This support, along with money from European funds, has helped the country to provide aid to the refugees.
