Weather Whiplash: Czech Republic Braces for Drastic Temperature Swings, Snowfall, and Chilly Conditions
Meteorologist Dagmar Honsová has issued a forecast that signals a significant weather shift in the Czech Republic this week, with temperatures set to oscillate dramatically from around 12°C to freezing conditions, even during daytime. St. Catherine’s Week is expected to bring notable temperature jumps, with Wednesday predicted to be the coldest day, featuring snowfall even in the lowlands.
Monday will be influenced by a low-pressure area, resulting in mostly overcast weather with rain or showers, potentially substantial in northern regions. Despite afternoon temperatures reaching 8 to 12°C, the wind may create a cooler sensation. Tuesday is anticipated to be mostly cloudy, with rain or showers in some areas. Evening temperatures will decrease, and snowfall is expected in the mountains, with the snowline dropping to around 400 meters above sea level.
Wednesday is forecasted to be the coldest day, with temperatures remaining below freezing in higher altitudes. Mostly cloudy conditions and occasional snow showers are expected throughout the day, and icy conditions may form in some places during the morning, with temperatures ranging from 0 to -4°C. Thursday will witness a weather change due to the passage of a warm front, resulting in overcast conditions and precipitation, occasionally freezing. Morning lows are predicted to be -1 to -6°C, with daytime temperatures reaching 2 to 7°C.
Another frontal system will impact the weather on Friday, bringing mostly cloudy conditions, rain or showers, and snowfall in higher altitudes. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 5 to 0°C, while daytime highs are forecasted to range between 4 and 8°C. Fresh winds are expected on both Thursday and Friday.
The weekend outlook anticipates overcast conditions, with rain or showers and possible snowfall in higher altitudes. Morning lows on both days are expected to range from 4 to -2°C, while daytime temperatures will hover between 4 and 8°C. As the Czech Republic faces these weather fluctuations, residents are urged to prepare for the sudden onset of winter conditions and exercise caution during potentially icy periods.
