What will this year’s Little Inventory be like?
A retrospective showcase of the most prominent new theatre projects that have been created during the past year, a rich networking programme of new formats, a surprising series of so-called non-visible discussions, but also events for children. That will be this year’s Little Inventory. The 22nd edition of the new theatre festival will offer thirty theatre, dance, object or multimedia performances and performances on eighteen stages in Prague between 20 and 28 February 2024. This year, the festival will open with the Czech Theatre DNA awards at The Heroes Studio. These are handed out every two years in honour of prominent figures and acts in the field of new theatre and live culture.
The programme of the festival was prepared by the artistic director of The Small Inventory, Petr Pola, with the dramaturgy Karolina Plickova. “We’re seeing ruptures in the landscape, in identity, in systems that seemed unswayable. We follow the lines of these cracks that rupture and burst in unexpected places and try to read the present from their routes and prophesy possible forms of the future,” says Karolina Plicková. “Let’s be seekers of cracks, detectives of subliminal layers and hidden sources,” adds Peter Pola.
The Little Inventory festival develops artistic diversity, helps to raise the profile of socially and artistically current problems and co-shapes a map of independent theatre in the Czech Republic. This year’s event will feature a number of established theatre groups, artists and artists who bring a fresh wind and unexpected experiences to the Czech scene. There will be the likes of Dusan David Pařízek (Moskoviad), Handa Gote Research & Development (Third Hand), Climax, Depressed Kids Want Money (Bluebeard Revival), Temporary Collective (GEO), Jan Mocek (Happy Hour), PYL Formation (How to Just Do It), Miřenka Čechová (IRIS), Daniela Špinar (Embraced by God and Nothing), Tereza Lener (Glove Races) or Janek Lesák and Natálie Preslová (Suckers Attack).
“We look forward to meeting again, live networking, sharing ideas and new collaborations at home and abroad. There are 130 guests in Prague, several foreign delegations from artistic directors or dramatists. We also have a PerformanceBus for them this year, for example, a unique theatrical trip outside the capital to the Wallenstein lodge in Jičín. And don’t forget that the festival continues to take place in six other Czech cities during the year,” explains Small Inventory Director Adriana Světlíková.
