Young Elliot Lake dance to compete in Prague
She was recognized by World Performers Canada for her tap dancing and was invited to be part of World Performers Canada, says Christine Brunet, owner of DanceWorks.
“She was invited because of her calibre of tap work. She was invited to be part of the team,” adds Brunet.
At a session with World Performers Canada, she was invited to audition for other dance disciplines, and they were impressed with her hip-hop. As a result, she was invited to participant in hip-hop as well, explains Charlotte.
To help her train for the Prague competition as a member of World Performers Canada team she heads to Toronto occasionally to learn the choreography for her tap and hip-hop routines.
“Then I also got asked to do a tap small group by the people from the Dance World Cup. So, I’m in a tap small group now as well,” says Charlotte.
Charlotte has been dancing since the age of six. The first year, she joined the recreational ballet class.
“The year after I joined the competitive and I never stopped. I’ve always been in the competitive dance,” says Charlotte.
Her dance instructor at DanceWorks, Kelsey Patry says “She’s very athletic.”
Charlotte says she tried a number of sports but didn’t find one she liked other than gymnastics. As a result, she opted to explore dance and she loved it.
Charlotte has been in a number of dance competitions over the last five years.
“And she has done very well,” says Patry.
Patry says there will be competitors from about 60 countries at the competition in Prague.
“I am beyond proud of Charlotte’s accomplishments,” expresses Patry. “I’m so glad to have had the opportunity to choreograph for Charlotte and work with her for the past few years. She has the kind of drive and passion for dance that can’t be taught. You have all the love and support from your DanceWorks family Charlotte, congratulations.”
Heading to the competition in Prague she has to pay for her expenses. To help cover the cost of travel, accommodations, registration fees, plus traveling to Toronto every second month to train she is fundraising by selling 2024 calendars.
Each month the calendar has a different photograph from in and around Elliot Lake. The pictures were taken by Elliot Lake photographer Richard Boose, of Northern Exposures Photography.
The calendars are $20 each and available at Big Fish Graphics at 6 Anne Walk, Unit 2.
